This is the “Moon” edition of the Omega Speed Master. This is one of the most popular Omega’s on the market right now because it’s basically the first Omega that went to space. You cannot say you have a complete watch collection if you do not have this. Let’s start off with the box.

It comes with the nice Speedmaster seal, that is recognizable within the watch community. Once you open it, there’s another case within that has the seal yet again with the saying “Legendary Moonwatch”

The presentation of this box is amazing. I’ve never seen a watch in this type of display before. To start off, let’s get into a little bit of history. On October 3rd, 1962, Walter Schirra was the 5th American to go into Space, and he also brought this Omega watch with him. The story goes that Walter went watch shopping before he went to space, some say he wanted a nice watch to commemorate his trip and he fell in love with the Speedmaster. Years later, Omega re-released the watch and that’s what we have now.

Now, back to the review. Once you undo the buckles, that co-inside with the astronaut theme, the watch is revealed.

After opening the case,  you fall in love with the presentation. It has a unique look and feel and makes you feel very special. Everything about this watch is perfect. The metal band, the clasp, just the way the watch looks is elegant. The watch case measure 38.7 millimeters, and I also love how well proportioned it is. You can wear this watch for both dressy and casual occasions.

You can get the Speedmaster in either sapphire or hesalite. The sapphire is more durable and it scratches less. But if you are a lower budget, the hesalite is the way to go and also it’s the one that Walter took to space. One neat feature of this watch is that it’s also engraved inside. It says “Flight Qualified By NASA For All Manned Space Missions, The First Watch Worn On The Moon”

Now, this watch will run you between 3 and 4 thousand dollars. It is pricey because it’s in the thousands, compared to other luxury watches, it’s not that bad. Therefore, for the price, it’s totally worth it.
